SPARK Privacy Policy

Protecting the privacy of participants and parents is our top priority. Please see below for SPARK’s Statement of Privacy, which applies to usage of the SPARK website as well as the data collected in SPARK studies. Please note that this is not a consent form; you will be guided through a consent process before the start of each study.

Collection of Personal Information

SPARK does not collect any personal information about you unless you voluntarily provide it to us. Please note that you may be required to provide personal information to be eligible to participate in studies on the SPARK website. These include: (a) registering for an account on our site; (b) completing surveys as part of our studies.

Use of Personal Information

We will use your information for research purposes only, including to inform you of future opportunities to participate in SPARK research. No third-party organizations will ever gain access to this information, and it will never be used for commercial purposes.

Automatically Collected Information

Information about your computer’s hardware and software may be automatically collected by the site. This information may include: your IP address, browser type, domain name, access times and website addresses. Automatically encoded information is used for operation of services, quality maintenance, and general statistics of use of the website.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the Personal Information provided to us from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no information sent through the Internet or e-mail is ever fully safe or error free. In particular, e-mail sent to or from our lab account may not be secure. Therefore, you should take special care in deciding what information you send to us via email. Please keep this in mind when disclosing any Personal Information to us via the Internet. In the event that personal information is compromised as a breach of security, we will quickly notify users in compliance with the law.

E-mail Communications

The SPARK system or members of the Hartley Lab research team may contact you via email when studies are available for you or your children. If you would like to stop receiving these emails, you may ‘opt out’ of study participation.

Changes to This Statement

SPARK reserves the right to change its Statement of Privacy from time to time. We will notify you about significant changes in how we treat personal information by sending a notice to the primary email address specified in your account and/or by placing a prominent notice on our site.
